Starker Forests, Inc., offers summer internships for those who have a passion for and interest in forestry and are at least 18 years old. These are seasonal, full-time positions (40hrs/week). Employees will spend most of their time working outdoors.
This internship position may include but is not limited to the following activities:
- Forest Inventory
- Stand exams
- Plantation stocking surveys
- Timber cruising
- Fire Crew – training provided
- Becoming familiar with firefighting equipment
- Building fire trails around recently harvested units
- Work on slash burns/wildfires
- Miscellaneous Forestry Activities
- Silvicultural activities
- Road maintenance activities
- Stream flow permanence surveys
- Forest operations support
Requirements
Applicants must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds safely and be able to twist and bend repeatedly while performing work activities. Applicants must be able to hike up and down steep slopes on uneven terrain and hike through brush and logging debris.
You must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record as judged by our insurance company to operate Starker Forests’ vehicles. You must agree that our insurer can check your driving record.
Applicants may be exposed to stinging insects, poison oak, and other plants that can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. In fire situations, exposure to smoke and high temperatures is likely during suppression activities. On occasion, you will be asked to work extended hours to complete a project or respond to a fire emergency.
